LISBON LITERARY TOUR

To know a little of Portuguese Literature is, also, to know the place and its people. And, thinking about it, Gira Lisboa set a course for lovers of literature. We have selected four places, along with each author's history, so that our client friend knows some of the icons of Portuguese Literature in the world.

ALEXANDRE HERCULANO, VASCO DA GAMA, LUIS VAZ DE CAMÕES AND FERNANDO PESSOA

In the Church of the Monastery are the tombs of Vasco da Gama, who had his Odyssey by the seas on the way to the Indies, narrated in the work The Lusiads, by Luis Vaz de Camões. It is worth mentioning that the tombs are soon for those who enter the Church and are neighbors, facing each other.
Already in the building of the Monastery, where the monks of the Order of St. Jerome (hence the designation Jerónimos Monastery) were chosen, are the tombs of the historian Alexandre Herculano and Fernando Pessoa, perhaps the greatest figure in Portuguese literature of the twentieth century.
The Monastery opens from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 5:30 p.m. (October to April) and from 10am to 6:30 p.m. (from May to September). Entry by our account.

Part of Modern Portuguese Literature, José Saramago receives a homage with his library and bookstore, in the same building that has planted in front of him Oliveira, a symbol that José Saramago loved and that part of his ashes were deposited in 2010.
